LAY ASIDE EVERY WEIGHT – FOCUS ON THE CROSS~Part 1
May 31, 2022
BE THANKFUL AND SURRENDER TO THE WILL OF GOD
June 10, 2022[Hebrews 12:1]
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us”
Since we are in the presence of God we need to be able to lay aside every weight. It is easy for someone to have weight on their shoulders. There is the weight that you must carry which is of the cross and lay aside every weight that is not of the Word. You need to strip off this weight. Since we are born again we are on a journey and we are called. Many things can make you lose concentration and miss what God has given you.
Paul says let us lay aside every weight, when something has entangled you it means you are not free. You find yourself bound. It is not only demons that possess, but some people are entangled by the things of the world. You can’t just lay aside without looking at Jesus. When you lose focus on Jesus you are looking at something else. Some things take us away from Jesus, so we need to lay aside and focus on the one on the cross. Who usually prepares for the things that easily entangle you?
We have Christians who are ignorant of the small things that take them away from salvation. There are some Christians who are caused to go away because of things that look like sin. Those things that are not beneficial can easily take you away from Jesus if you do not focus on Him. Jesus made you what you are, some lose focus on Him and expect things to remain the same.
Gifts are without repentance but not the relationship. The church needs to understand that when Jesus died on the cross He made us become sons. Not everyone can become a son. When you lose the relationship with God you can never be the same. Do not be amazed when people quote scriptures and they speak too much, that is because they are no longer sons. What is it that you have that has attracted the devil to you? There is something that attracts demons from afar. The devil doesn’t just come and attack you, he comes when there is something. When you are in God you become hidden.
[Job 1:6]
The devil, the accuser has been roaming around busy looking for something. When he finds that something he attacks it. In the times of Job, it is not that there were no other people, they were there but the devil was looking for believers. The moment you receive the Lord as your personal saviour you became on the target list. Most of you, is it the Lord that makes the devil notice you, or is it your desires/thoughts?
Not everyone receives the attacks that Job received where God says, the devil couldn’t find anyone like Job because he was righteous and hidden in the Lord. For some of you, it is not the Lord that is with you but it is your desires and thoughts that have led you to the valley of death. Jesus can lead you to climb the mountain but for some of you, no one is leading you. Do not lose focus. That weight can be your shepherd and it can be the one leading you.
We need to deal with the weight that can lead us astray. Do not be led by your desires or thoughts. For some of you, God is not with you because of your fleshly desires. He didn’t say that He is the only Shepherd but that He is the only true Shepherd. The past can be your shepherd, imagine being led by what is behind you. Why is it that the devil can see you every time? It is not protection that you need but a relationship. When your garment attracts the enemy then take it off.
It doesn’t end by being born again but you need to be protected. Do you have swords that are guarding your minds? Some parables must not apply to you. How long must the enemy come and plant the seed? Every time you sit with your fellow brothers they plant, what kind of garden are you that doesn’t have boundaries? The enemy no longer plants seeds only but he just throws anything at you. Haven’t you completely died?
The devil couldn’t find Job. When you are like Job you don’t need protection but you become hidden. When you are hidden it means you are in a relationship with God. A Christian who doesn’t pray is in the open while a praying Christian is hidden in God. Hence some people in the church are always victims of gossip. But some people preserve their gardens. Before lockdown, I preached a message ‘who is planting in your garden?’ It is a problem to be fathered by the disciple while Jesus is present. Fathering is between the son and the father. Your attack must be allowed by God.
Love defeats all and it can win all things. All things work together for good for those who are in the Lord, those who love the Lord are the children of God. When the devil attacked you who made him aware? God needs to be the one who directs your life. The baby that you feed is the one that will defeat you someday.
The devil looked for Job but couldn’t find him because he had a relationship with God. Most of you, it doesn’t even get there because there is still too much weight. You are free indeed but what you keep inside can make you be possessed. The weight is not the sin but it can invite sin. So lay aside what leads to sin because that very same thing is danger to you.
Eve was not a perfect wife, do not become a supplier. None who are mature have a need. When you are in need it will initiate some things. Adam was lonely, loneliness is not righteous. God didn’t create light because He needed light, God is self-sufficient, and He doesn’t have any need. How sure are you that it is love when there is loneliness? Is it not the need? Loneliness can drive someone to think that they are in love while they are not. What causes the burning sensation within you is not love. What motivated what you call love? Most of you are praying useless prayers because you don’t know what God is doing in the Spirit. He must be the foundation. [Roman’s 8:26], knowing what to pray for is a problem, we do not know what to pray for but the Spirit comes to our aid.
If you are waiting on your car or marriage, you know too much. You do not need to know what you need. Live as though there is no need. Sometimes we go through tough times but it doesn’t mean God has left you
Stop knowing what you need but know Christ. The Spirit prays for us with groanings. The Spirit must groan within you until we hear Him. (Verse 27), when you know, God doesn’t know, for Him to know you need not to know. God doesn’t know a carnal mind but a mind of the spirit. As long as you give attention to your need it can never be the Will of God. (Verse 28), this verse doesn’t just start here, you can’t quote it only because you are crying about something that you brought upon yourself. We teach the Word, and what is in the Will of God.
What makes you a dog is when you are a son who rejects correction. What you gather you must keep but what He gives, He ensures that no one takes it away from you. Focus on Jesus and let Him be the one who takes care of you.
[2 Corinthians 12:7]
There is a need here, he wanted something hence he pleaded with the Lord. A plea is usually used by people who complain. Some of you have been speaking too much that you don’t even hear the answer. Paul did the same thing, but he knew how many times he asked the Lord meaning as time went on he stopped asking. The answer was not the removal of the thorn but that His grace is sufficient. You need the Grace to be able to fellowship in peace while you do not have clothes. When God gives you the answer as Grace, how many reject it? Most of you are crying about your infirmities instead of boasting in them. Imagine Paul being busy wasting his time by pleading in a way that he does not hear God when He says ‘my grace is sufficient’.
We are so prepared to fight for things in prayer that we do not hear God. Jesus focused on the cross that He never noticed the other two that were being crucified with Him until they spoke to Him. Mind your own business and focus on the cross. [Psalm 19:3], the star doesn’t need to go around shouting yet its voice is heard. Some of you are blowing the trumpet instead of the Word being the one blowing the trumpet. Let us focus on the cross, that way our voices will be heard. Become a person without a need to a point where the world sees you as a person who doesn’t lack anything. God will continually add and the world won’t see a need in you. Your focus on Christ is very vital and that’s how the world will know. Last time I taught that you must stop pushing.
[Colossians 3:15-16]
“Let the peace of Christ [the inner calm of one who walks daily with Him] be the controlling factor in your hearts [deciding and settling questions that arise]. To this peace indeed you were called as members in one body [of believers]. And be thankful [to God always]. 16 Let the [spoken] word of Christ have its home within you [dwelling in your heart and mind—permeating every aspect of your being] as you teach [spiritual things] and admonish and train one another with all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God”
When you meet each other do not meet because of anything else. The Word of God gives us peace. Allow the Word of God to give you peace. How do we bring down every thought that arises? Let peace answer and speak for you today so that you do not lose focus. Have peace in God and settle, let every question that arises in your mind be answered.
