THE ABRAHAMIC COVENANT
May 27, 2021[Matthew 1:1]
“The book of the genealogy[a] of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham”
The genealogy of Jesus ends here, these are the two covenants. He is known as the Son of Abraham and David. God made a covenant with both David and Abraham, therefore we need to live through these covenants. You need to remember the former to partake from the latter. God has made a covenant with our forefathers and we need to tap into this covenant and eat the benefits.
In the book of Hebrew 11, it says nothing could be fulfilled in their lives because God had us in mind, fulfillment means completion meaning it began in them yet it must be completed by us. For a wall to stand there must be a foundation, therefore when we remember the former we bring the foundation to stand to build upon it.
As Christians there is a covenant we must live in as sons of God, it was made through Abraham and David. We do not need to start our own thing because Jesus came with a genealogy which we must abide by. In this present world, one must understand that for one to become rich they must inherit from someone, this is how the system works, if you are from a poverty background the system won’t favor you.
Rich people are those who inherited from their forefathers. It is hard to start afresh, hence we have a covenant we must live by and it benefits us physically more than spiritually. Christ was before Abraham, hence Abraham is the father of Jesus and not Christ.
[Genesis 12: 1-3]
“Get out of your country, from your family. And from your father’s house to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you. And make your name great.”
The problem is that we are trying to make our names great and not His name, everyone is trying to build their own empires but how about we live based on the name (Abraham) and a covenant that has already been established. The name Abraham is already great, we must stop making a name for ourselves, no other name must rise in the kingdom, for Abraham’s blessings are ours.
It is time we become a blessing because we are living up to a great name. (Verse 3) “I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you, all the families of the earth shall be blessed”, the promise was not made to Israel but to many families of this earth, all families must tap in as this is a blessing which has already been made.
Through Abraham, all the families of the earth shall be blessed. This covenant requires one with a firm heart because the verse says those who bless you shall be blessed but those who curse you shall be cursed too, meaning even your relatives and family members as long they speak against you they shall be cursed.
Before partaking from this covenant be alerted that it cannot be deceived, this covenant shall also affect those around you, those who curse you shall know that it won’t go well with them. This is a covenant and it can never be active unless both parties are in agreement, God played His part and it was then up to Abraham who almost failed because of Sarah.
However Abraham was able to stand and became obedient to God throughout when Isaac was supposed to be handed over as a sacrifice (see Genesis 22), he never withheld him. Abraham’s blessings are ours and if God is looking for works our Father Abraham did it for us. We ought to be spoilt brats to understand and partake from this covenant, do not count your works nor your tithe or offering to be blessed but you have your father’s covenant.
We ought to see our professions and daily jobs as hobbies and not as something which will make us rich because Abraham’s blessings are ours.
As the lyrics of the song say “Remember when it rained” this is the former therefore remember the former to partake from the latter.
[Genesis 26:1-5]
“Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your descendants I give all these lands, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father”.
This was directed to Isaac as God made a covenant with Abraham. Isaac was faced with famine and God reminded him of the covenant He made with Abraham and by this Isaac was blessed because of Abraham. Abraham was tested and he was the one whom the covenant was spoken to and established through, hence the sons of Abraham do not need to be tested again.
Abraham paid all the price for his descendants, thus it is an error for you to labor and be tested while living according to the covenant of Abraham. Why are we robbed as sons of Abraham, why is that we are robbed of our inheritance? But now we remember that there is a will and it has our names on it.
Today’s teaching is about the former and the latter rain, it is prophetical but also a doctrine. We are both sons of Abraham and David. The word former and latter were widely used by Israelites because they would experience rain twice a year. There would be rain from October to November which was the former rain, this would happen in the season of sowing and planting. Then from March to April, there would be the latter rain which would be more than the former rain, this would happen in the season of harvesting.
We need to remember the former so that we can benefit from the latter, it has rained in the Bible and now it is time for the latter to rain upon us. When we speak of Abraham we speak of wealth, dominion, and reconciliation of what Adam lost. However, when we speak of David we speak of Kingship, authority, and the outpouring of the Spirit.
A revival which the prophets of the old spoke about is mainly about spiritual revival, they forgot about the revival of positions and wealth. Thus we cannot be tongue-talking and yet poor, we cannot recognize David and forsake Abraham. Abraham was rich and he possessed lands.
God said to Moses that the covenant that He promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is upon him. God is the father of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (see Exodus 3). Coming out of Egypt what they acknowledged more were the signs and miracles more than the wealth that God promised them.
Moses was not graced with power but he was graced with possession, what made him go to Egypt was not power but famine, yet God made a promise to Moses forefathers that Canaan will be a land that is given to them and there will be honey and milk. What was promised in Canaan it was possession, Israel was promised riches.
A testimony of two or three is valid, for the covenant of David to be established it needed two witnesses which are David and Jesse. However, to Abraham, the covenant had to be re-established and spoken three times to Abraham, Jacob, and Isaac. The problem with us Christians is that we are so focused on the covenant of power rather than that of wealth.
[Genesis 26:3]
God made a covenant again with Isaac son of Abraham, which now makes it a doctrine. The land is with the rich. This covenant does not expire, and it is an error for us to be without land, we must possess lands.
We are the descendants of Abraham and we did not separate from our biological parents to start all over. (Verse 5) All this will happen because Abraham obeyed His voice and kept his commandments. Now our prayer should change, instead of quoting what we have done, we need to mention Abraham who listened and obeyed God. God said to Isaac He will bless him because of what Abraham did. It is not all about us but about what Abraham did.
[John 14:1 -16]
He will give you an advocate, comforter, intercessor, and standby to be with you forever. The advocate’s job is to put in an application on our behalf so we can inherit our wealth. We have both the will and advocate, the will is the covenant.
[Genesis 28:14]
The very same covenant is reiterated again to Jacob, now there are three witnesses Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God’s covenant does not change but remains the same. God is not saying we shall make means to survive but the covenant remains, it does not expire.
[Exodus 3:6-15]
“The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations”.
Perhaps we have been praying in the wrong name, although the name Jesus is a name above all names it does not cancel this name. We have been neglecting this name which is the “The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob”.
(15) This is my memorial to all generations, this includes this generation too. Memorial means remembrance, so we need to remember when it rained, the rain which rained in the lives of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob this rain is the one we should remember.
[Matthew 22:31-32]
He is the God of the living, when we remember Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob we are not remembering the dead. One great thing about our covenant it does not say Abraham has to be our father through the bloodline but it is through faith, we are part of this covenant not because we are born out of them but by faith. Jesus connects us to Abraham.
[Acts 7:32]
We have come to understand that there is a name we have been neglecting. We have now established the name we should use to inherit what belongs to us. It is time we pray and ask for our wealth in the name of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
