“DENYING YOURSELF SAVES YOU FROM REBELLION”-Part 1

#TakingItBackTo2020
March 4, 2021[Matthew 16:21-24]
Peter was not possessed. Jesus was addressing where the devil is supposed to be. The devil will always be behind. Jesus is saying let me carry this cross. So, anyone who wants to follow me, they need to pick up their cross and follow me, it has to be behind you. The old person is crucified on the cross. The new person does not resurrect from the cross, but he walks out of the tomb.
When He says pick up the cross, He is emphasizing that your old self should be at the back. You must not be led by your old self.
Now before you can think about others, think of yourself first. Your mind must be on the Spirit and not flesh and blood. You leave yourself by being behind. The flesh will always try to trouble the Spirit man.
You cannot call yourself a Christian if you fail to deny yourself. Physically they are walking with Jesus but they are doing that with selfish ambitions and purposes. You call yourself a vessel but you are still asking me about your purpose and not what God wants to do in your life. Many want prophecy just so they can know about the future, and not about what God wants to do.
When it comes to prophecies about revival, they do not rejoice but they rejoice when it is related to them. People have not denied themselves. Hence, coming to church with a mind that is filled with self, will lead to destruction. Rebellion is doing something intentionally when you are told not to do it.
People who are rebellious were in a state we are in, where we fail to deny ourselves. The problem is that we are trying to fix people who are rebellious and not the ones who are on the edge of being rebellious. The road to rebellion begins when you do not hear God. People fail to deny when they are supposed to practice it. Denying ourselves is progressive. There is a point where you are able to deny yourself daily without being always placed in an environment that is without things that cause you to fall.
The purpose of the spirit of rebellion is to block a believer from thriving. Think of an area in your walk of life where your agenda is more important than God. Think of your vision that is more important than your serving. There are things in life, they become bigger than God’s work. If it is like that, then it means that is an entrance to rebellion. Any agenda or vision that is bigger than God’s work, serves as a threat to your salvation.
Ensure that you do away with what seems bigger than you or the work that you are doing. It is important to serve. There is no Christianity when there is no serving. Remember the garden was placed first before Adam, so there is no ’you’ without serving. Your sole purpose is to serve. Your existence relies on your serving.
[Luke 23: 38-39 ]
Most Christians picked up their cross and now when they were nailed, they want God to help them. They would abuse God’s power asking Him that He takes the desire away. It is like carrying the cross only to change your mind when you are about to reach your goal. Note that those desires and feelings will go away, all you need to do is to master how to deny yourself. You need to ignore the old person. Some leave the church because of petty things. You need to deny yourself and put the old person behind and move forward.
[Genesis 4: 6-7]
If God could not save Cain by removing that sin, what more about you? God is saying that sin is crouching at the door therefore you ought to master it. It is your duty to deny yourself. What God teaches us is that we will be given grace and strength to say no to sin. We are strengthened through His Word. If only we can dwell more in His Word, we will have an upper hand and rule over the old man. There are instructions on how to deny yourself, but not on how to take the sin away.
The problem is that people want deliverance, they come asking to be prayed for whatever struggle they have and the demon manifests and leaves them. Now they are left with habits, they still want deliverance whereas the only solution is for them to deny themselves. If you fail to deny yourself expect rebellion to befall you.
Those that you regard as being rebellious, you will be like them if you fail to deny yourself. Denying ourselves is obedience to the Word of God and rebellion is disobedience to the Word of God. We say Cain is rebellious because we think it happened collectively, but what about being rebellious alone without gathering people? Disobedience is being rebellious.
[1 Samuel 15: 22-23]
When you are rebellious you are no different than a witch. People become disobedient because they think they know more than the Word and Will of God. However, before it speaks about rebellion, it spoke of obedience being better than sacrifice. Therefore, disobedience gives birth to rebellion.
God was saying that you should deny yourself. If there is a spirit manifesting, going forward when the influencer is gone, you need to deny yourself. A person is rebellious because they are stubborn, prideful, and arrogant. If you fail to put yourself behind, know that you are opening a door to rebellion.
God says we try to teach those that left instead of those that are still remaining showing signs of rebellion. We should stop asking God to save us from our desires whereas He gave us the solution. When you open your eyes to other things you start to compare. When you deny yourself in small things you can be able to deny yourself in big things. There are things you can get away with when no one sees. You must have something to account for when faced with temptations.
You can never bring down Goliath while you failed to bring down the lion and the bear. David could have ran away and not account to anyone, but if he tempers with the lion and the bear; he is also doing that to Goliath as well. So do not expect to win battles in front of people while you failed to win battles in secret. Denying yourself is practice. You ought to learn how to master the game, and in that, you can account that you have conquered the lion and the bear; therefore Goliath who are you?
When you are tempted you need to have credentials that show that you have conquered. It was important that David brought forth his credentials showing that he conquered. If you failed to be faithful in little how can be faithful with much. In some of the things, it is not a matter of being denied but it is a matter of having credentials, something to account for you. As long as there is no lion and the bear, there is no Goliath to face.
You are looking for a job, but God sees that you are still failing in your environment so how do you expect to be kept in another environment? If you were blessed without being faithful, ask yourself who blessed you? To those who are not faithful, God does not bless but takes away.
