‘GIVING UP YOUR LIFE’ Part 2
September 28, 2020[Luke 5:1-11]
We all know that Peter was a fisherman and this was his profession. He was an unlearned man, and his profession was being a fisherman. Here comes a man with a miracle and said to him that even though it is your profession, cast the net. Peter then catches lots of fish that even the net could not hold them. For the bible to tell us that he was fishing the whole night, it shows how important fishing was to him, but still could not catch any fish. He struggled and still could not get there, but here comes a Man who instructs him, and he catches fish that he has never caught in his life.
Imagine all your goals, what you want to achieve in your life, and here comes God, and He gives you them now? After He gives you what you always wanted, then you give it all up just to follow Him. We should be capable of giving everything up just to follow the Lord. Jesus never told them to leave the fish. Some of us we are told to separate but Peter knew how to let go of what he wanted, even though he did not even taste it. You will also learn that Peter was married, but he did not even consult with his wife but left everything and followed Jesus.
[Mark 10:28-31]
Nowadays, Christians go to Jesus to catch fish; they have not forsaken fish to follow Jesus. Christians follow Jesus to get material things. They do not forsake everything, but they follow to attain everything. When you have a heart like Peter, there is no way that you could complain, and say that your life is stagnant because you deserted everything for Christ. We can never be the rock that Peter was while we are still seeking the things that he left.
Our problem is that we go to church to seek things that the disciples left just to follow Him. As long as you do not have the heart that Peter had, the scripture that says, “seek first the Kingdom of God and all things shall follow” – cannot and is not fulfilled in your life. When it says “the rest shall be added”- I do not count added as blessings. It is a blessing to be in the Kingdom of God. “Added” is what you have not been seeking for. It is a miracle to find a job while you still have God. Selah!
Many people’s houses, cars, and jobs made them leave God because it is what they were seeking. They were not seeking God. When they have found what they were looking for, they do not have a relationship with God. If Peter was looking for fish after catching those fish, he could have left, but he knew how to separate from what he wanted and left them to follow Christ.
There is a difference between forsaking and investing. When we say you forsake everything, it means that the love for it is no more. Peter found something that he loves more than fishing. A hundredfold can never happen if you still have the love of money. It can never happen as long as you love your careers and families more than God. You need to love Him more than anything. You need to leave everything for Him.
There are people who took advantage of this scripture that you should leave everything not for God but for them. I cannot cause you to leave everything for me. There are people who left everything for their ministers, and that is why there were disappointments. Do not leave everything for a leader, but leave everything for our Master Jesus Christ. In that, a hundredfold you will find.
[John 6:63-70]
Many disciples went back because what they were looking for, they did not find. When He started to give them Spirit and life, they started to go away. The very same people who say they are robbed by people who were supposed to protect them is because they are not after Spirit and life. You are robbed or taken advantage of because you are not after Spirit and life. When you are after Spirit and life, you would stay where there is Spirit and life.
Some people who are robbed is because they left where there is Spirit and life to look for the pleasures of this life. Thieves know how to gather. They will work and steal from people until they bite each other. No one was taken advantage of, they were taking advantage of each other. Some people are not looking for Spirit and life, but they are going to churches to look for material things, and when the minister gives them Spirit and life they go away.
Demand comes first before supply. There is supply because of demand. There are false prophets because they are false followers seeking money. And while they were seeking money someone saw an opportunity. Supply can never entice someone who does not have demand. The bible says that in the last days people will be lovers of themselves. They will be going to churches to hear what they want to hear and not what God is saying to them. People are being robbed because they did not leave everything for God.
There was hunger in them while they were in the right place. Jesus was a true Man of God, followed by false followers who left Him when He was giving them Spirit and life. There are people who follow you because of the miracles, signs, and wonders that you perform, and not because you give them Spirit and life. When you give them Spirit and life they leave you. There are people who call you man of God because of how God blesses you, and not how God walks with you. Do not mistake the things we attain on earth for the presence of God.
