LOVE IS A WEAPON

[Matthew 22:37-39]

Jesus said you must love the Lord your God, this is the first commandment. The second commandment is the same as the first. In the first commandment you ought to love God with all your heart, mind and soul, in the second one it says you ought to love your neighbour as yourself. The way you love your neighbour should be the way you love God. So, give your neighbour the same love that you are giving to God.

I like what it says, it doesn’t say love God as yourself. The first commandment is for you to love  God with all your heart, mind and soul but when it comes to the second one of the neighbour it says, “You should love your neighbour as yourself. So, why is God not giving us a commandment to love ourselves? That is because automatically we love ourselves. Although everyone loves themselves, the deed can end up being a sin.

Remember the Bible says, “In the last days man will be lovers of themselves and when they are lovers of themselves, they go and sin.” When it says love your neighbour as you love yourselves, it means that in loving your neighbour you are loving yourself. Loving yourselves is not sin but loving yourself can end up becoming sin.

[Matthew 5:43-44]

This commandment at first was “Love your neighbour and hate your enemy.” I want to show you that even the one in Matthew 22, was cancelling the “hate your enemy” He never quoted it, He said love your neighbour as you love yourself and He never said hate your enemy. So, where is hate your enemy? It’s in the old testament but in the new testament already Jesus has cancelled it (Matthew 22:39,) this shows that you need to love your neighbour as you love yourself. When it says love your neighbor its saying, love any person who comes into your space.

God gave us an instruction to love Him, love neighbour(stranger, brother, sister etc), and love enemy. Today I want us to concentrate on these three (God, neighbor and enemy.) Obviously, you know that when we say love God, we say love Jesus, love the Holy Spirit. We know that when we say love your neighbour, it is brother or sister. Love your enemy, it is the unbeliever(the world), the one that hates you, the world. So, God instructs us to love all these people.

[1 John 4:7-21]

“Beloved, let us love one another” Today’s teaching I am not going to speak to much, but we are going to be reading scriptures, we are going to allow scriptures to speak for themselves. Do you know what I like about scriptures of love they don’t need interpretation they are straightforward? You want a perfect Christian, you want an immortal Christian, it’s a Christian that moves in love.

Love has two things, it’s a feeling (how you feel towards a person and your emotion) but yet love is action. Love is expressed in these ways. Action can never be a feeling, but a feeling can be action. Love is expressed in the heart (The feeling that you have towards a person. The knowledge you have about a person, that’s love.) Action can never be a feeling, but a feeling can be action. Those are two different things you can’t start by doing something and say you love that person.

A feeling is a matter of the heart and knowledge. Knowledge, which is the information I have about you. KnowIedge influence how one see’s you. What do they think, what comes to their minds when they think about you. Love is expressed in that way.

That is why the Bible says “man is not defiled by what is outside but what is inside.” So, it means what is inside affects what is outside.  Action can never be a feeling, but a feeling can be an action. So, one can have a feeling and the feeling motives them to become what they feel. So, when I have knowledge about you it affects how I will behave towards you, love is knowledge.

[1 Corinthians 13:1-13]

Tells us that love keeps no record of wrong. So, it means love is constituted by what you know. When you keep knowledge of wrong you will fail to love. The Bible says love keeps no record of wrong it means there is a record, but love doesn’t keep it.  Knowledge contributes a lot when it comes to love. If I have knowledge that you are a thief it will make me fail to love you. So, I must not keep that record of wrong which is knowing that you are a thief, for me to be able to love you. It will be impossible for you to love your enemy when you keep their record of wrong. They are an enemy because you have a record of what is wrong. So, the minute God says love your enemy, it means change them let them not be an enemy anymore because love will not keep a record of what is wrong.

Knowledge can prevent you from allowing someone to serve you. Number one love is God, what God is expecting us to express is what He is. When we love we show God, we manifest God. Verse 8 “He who does not love does not know God.” You don’t have to say I am born again to know God. We asked a question,  “How many are walking with God?” Enoch walked with God it means He knew God.

Jesus says no one knows the Father expect the Son. Do you know what He was saying there? How does He know God? If you do not love, you do not know God. He was saying ‘I am love, I am the sole expression of love so, for you to say I know God you must see Me loving.’ So, you know what we do, we try to define or represent God by other things than love. God wants to be represented by love.

Especially us men of God how do we want people to know that we walk with God? We associate walking with God with power. One thinks that when they see me healing the sick  or delivering the possessed I am with God. Love is the one that defines whether a person is with God or not, not the things that we do, not the signs and wonders, not the miracles, not the testimony’s that are said. So, what shows that we walk with God is love.

Sometimes we as ministers, we want people to know that we are anointed, or we walk with God. When people leave our churches and they suffer, they start to think that the man of God in that church really walks with God. That’s not how people must know us. What must show that one is a man of God is the love they have. People must know us through love and nothing else.

Love talks about long suffering, endurance, it means you can walk with God even when things are bad in your life. An idling Christian is the one who doesn’t walk in love. People are not growing spiritually because there is no love, they are idling; we are not getting the perfection of love. Perfection is love. What is growth spiritually? Growing spiritually is not praying in tongues for 24hours or falling under the anointing every time but is moving in love.

God loved us first, we didn’t love Him first and He loved us while we were sinners not because we were holy. God loved us while we were dirty, we had weaknesses, hate, jealous, competition, murders. He didn’t die only for the repented but for all.

God didn’t say love your enemies just for fun, there was a reason for that, that’s why the Bible says, “Anyone who sins is an enemy of God”. God loved us while we were sinners, this means God loved His enemies.

For God so loved the world(enemies of God).

He says whosoever believes shall not perish so the eternal life is for those who believe but the love was given for all. As a Christian don’t say you love certain people, and you don’t love some. You don’t love others because they love you but you love them because you have to love.

The church didn’t approach Jesus, but Jesus approached it. So, love captures, love wins. (Verse 11) “if God loved us, we also ought to love one another” so the way God loved you that’s the way you must love another.

Every love will be tested. Love attracts fights, arguments and offence but it never fails but wins. Love does not seek its own, it will not demand.

It’s an error for you to come to church and you want to be served that’s not love. It’s an error for you to want to sit and not want to serve, you are seeking to be loved but you do not want to love. We don’t love because we are not going to get hurt, disappointed or betrayed, we love because it’s a command.

When Jesus went to the cross and was crucified by people He loved He still spoke through John and say love. So, love never fails. Do you know God cancelled other things but not love.

When people sinned (The whole world) God destroyed everything by water in the days of Noah, and when He stopped the rain He brought the rainbow as a covenant, He said “I shall no longer destroy the world with water again”. He made a covenant, and He gave them love. Jesus came and brought love. God cancelled and stopped His wrath. In His anger, people didn’t go into the ark.

There is an ark that received many souls more than the ark of Noah and that was the ark of love, Jesus is our ark. God had to bring another ark which is love. Jesus came with love, today we are born again. (Verse 12) the only biggest evidence that God abides in you is loving one another. If you want to see that God is no longer with us is when we start hating each other, pointing fingers at each other, fighting each other.

Why do we want to be like Jesus in many things but not love? Jesus warned Peter that he will deny Him, and Peter denied Jesus publicly. When Jesus ressurected He didn’t wait for Peter to come to Him but He went to Peter, that is love. Jesus didn’t protect His image at the expense of Peter’s soul.

We want to heal, raise the dead and preach like Jesus, but we don’t want to love like Him.

We want to be rich, to sit at the right hand of the Father like Jesus, but we don’t want love like Him. Jesus was anointed by an adulterous woman and He didn’t refuse, He was easily accessible. He went to people’s houses, after feeding more than 5000 people. The number of people who followed Him did not stop Him from visiting people who were sick, who were sinners.

People will not experience the love of God in the pulpit. Unbelievers will not experience the love of God in the pulpit. They are hungry in the streets and that’s where we must minister love. The bible says when you enter in a city, and they reject you shake the dust and leave do not leave your peace with them take it with you. That’s what Jesus taught.

Some of Jesus’s followers left Him but they were not cursed, they didn’t die because of leaving Him. Many people rejected Jesus, what happened to them?

[Matthew 5:43-44]

“Pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you…”

This means those who are willingly, purposefully doing you badly, pray for them, that’s love. We always want to love those who love us, those who take care of us, those who treat us well. Let’s love even those who don’t treat us well and don’t love us. Love endures, love suffers long.

In my life as a Christian I must reach a stage where people don’t see the difference between my children (biological) and my spiritual children because of the way I love them

[1 John 4:20-21]

“If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.”

Your love for God is determined by your love for me (brother). You loving me is an evidence that you love God. When we love each other it’s an evidence that we love God. If you do not love others and you hate them, you hate God.

[Proverbs 25:21-22]

“If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; For so you will heap coals of fire on his head, And the Lord will reward you.”

The greatest weapon that you can use to fight is love not speaking back, not speaking bad, not swearing, not cursing but do what? Love! Love is the greatest weapon.

[Proverbs 3:3-4]

“Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart, And so find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man.”

When you love, are merciful, faithful and truthful, you will find favour with God and with man. Let mercy and truth be around your neck. When something is bound around your neck you are a slave to it.

Sometimes we get angry or offended but love must bring us back and show us our territory. When you are angry and about to manifest anger and you want to decide out of anger, love must hook you back.
