Water in the wilderness – the hiding place
August 19, 2019HEALING and RESTORATION
From the book of Exodus 15vs.22-25, we read about the water which was bitter in the wilderness (a place called Marah). God led Moses to a tree (Jesus) where he [Moses] threw part of the tree in the water and the bitter water became sweet. The afflictions that the Egyptians suffered from, did not affect the Israelites because God was their healer, all they had to do was to listen and obey His commandments. In 2 Kings 2vs.21, the water was polluted and nothing grew; thus there was bareness and death. Elisha sprinkled salt inside the water and the Lord declared the water pure. Even to this day, the water is pure and there ought to be fruitfulness and multiplication. Naaman was instructed to immerse himself inside the River Jordan seven times, he obeyed the commandment and his skin was restored; it was like the skin of a little baby.
If you look into all these experiences, you will notice that there wouldn’t be change/healing if the water was stagnant. Hence, people at the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem at the pool of Bethesda had to wait for an angel to come stir the water for them to jump in and be healed. If water is still, there won’t be healing. The water [at Bethesda] healed all diseases, it did not check whether the disease was curable or incurable. A man waited for 38 years to be thrown inside the stirred water in order to be healed. Before we can go on with water, we learn about patience from this man who waited.
I have realized that if you cannot learn from the experiences in the bible, God will take you through the very same situations for you to learn. Nonetheless, it is your choice: you either learn from those of the old or learn from Jesus or you go through it yourself to learn. Jesus was not obliged to pick up and take the man to the river but He just declared him healed because He [Jesus] is the Living Water. Jesus gave the man moving and flowing water. Disbelief can cause your water to be stagnant, hence the bible says that those who believe have their bellies flowing living waters (see John 7vs.38).
SEPARATION and SECURITY
The way water is powerful, it can cause separation. Remember when the Israelites were going out of Egypt? Moses separated the waters (sea) for the Israelites to pass through, but when the Egyptians tried to pass through; they drowned. Thus, there was separation between the Israelites and the Egyptians. Elijah and Elisha also split the River Jordan (2 Kings 2) and they walked on dry land. Samson became very thirsty and asked the Lord for water, God split open the rock basin in Lehi and water gushed out and Samson drank. Just like Moses and the Israelites, God showed him a Rock to point at for water to drink, He also told Moses to hit the Rock then water came out (see Exodus 17vs.1). Water separates us from what is not of God and reconnects us with God, building a relationship. Water can either harm you (destroy you because of disobedience) or enhance you because of obedience. When water enhances you, it protects you; look at Moses, he was found in a basket floating in the water unharmed. Water listens; it is very much obedient to the anointing. This happened in the Old Testament. God used water a lot in most encounters, more than the laying of hands and oil. Now let us see the miracles that Jesus performed through water:
John 2vs.7 The first miracle that Jesus performed involved water, Jesus in the village of Cana in Galilee changed water to wine. You see how obedient water is? When the fishermen were unable to catch fish, Jesus came through and they caught fish to a point where their nets tore and their boats sank to sink (see Luke 5vs.1-6). Suddenly there was an overabundance when Peter threw the net on the right side. As mentioned above, water can either harm you or save you, the disciples were frightened by the storm (see Matthew 8vs.23-27) and they woke Jesus up with fear. Jesus just calmed the storm [water] down and there was peace. Moreover, Jesus walked on the sea (see Mathew 14vs.22).
Inasmuch as water healed in the Old Testament, even in the New Testament: the blind man washed his eyes at the Pool of Siloam (see John 9). When the fishermen were matured and equipped to receive, the net did not tear or break when Jesus repeated the same miracle (see John 21). It is said that the Israelites drank form a spiritual Rock but still died (see 1 Corinthians 10vs.4). It is an error to believe in manifestation of power and more than the end results, God did not swap results to manifestations. Therefore, do not just settle for the manifestation of a miracle but what it’s the end result?
