“STRENGTH TO SERVE HAS BEEN GIVEN”

‘BE STRENGTHENED AND RESTORED WHILE SERVING’
December 13, 2020The Word is our lifestyle, there is no way we can be able to survive without it. It is just like in our physical lives — there are certain things you cannot survive or live without. As we live in this world, there are certain things we do to keep our bodies healthy. For instance, you can keep healthy by eating healthy food, exercising, and so on.
It is the same with our spiritual lives — there are certain things that we need to do to maintain our salvation. There are people who are not working, yet they eat and live. There are people who are not exercising, yet they still live even though they are not maintaining the body as they should. You can eat anything and live, but you will find that there are some hidden diseases because of certain things that you are not doing.
Those things might affect you in the future. As you grow you start to see your body failing and only then you want to start eating healthy and exercising. One thing we have been given is life, but for you to maintain it, there are certain things you need to do.
As a child, you do not worry about what you will eat because you are dependent on your parents. You do not even see the need to work because you are fed and provided for.
In your spiritual life, there are things you ought to do. You can be provided for, yet there is a stage you reach whereby you cannot survive without doing certain things that will maintain you spiritually. In as much as there are things you do not do but still live, there is one thing you cannot do without which is breathing. You can never take a break from breathing.
This rule also applies spiritually. There are things you cannot survive without doing. When God said, ‘pray without ceasing’, it is the same as you breathing without ceasing. If you take a break from maintaining yourself spiritually, you will die.
There are things that when you are still new as a Christian and just got born again, you can get away with. You might not even see the need to serve. Yet, there is a level you reach where serving is now a necessity.
Some serve because they love what they are gifted in. However, there is a level you reach that when you serve it is no longer about loving or not loving what you are gifted in.
There are times where you might be stopped from serving, will you backslide? The gift you were given, you do not need to love it more than God. It will become easy to use the gift in the world when you love it more than God. Serving does not start with you loving it.
[John 3: 16]
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
He gave with His Son. His Son came and taught yet the main purpose was for Him to die for us. He was serving all of us. If it was all about loving death at the cross, He could have chosen to die for a certain nation. Initially, it began with loving the world, and then serving came after.
Love God and serving will be easy. If you love the gift you received, you can decide when and how you will use it. If you know it is about loving God, then you will know it is not all about benefits.
We ought to have the Spirit of serving. Most are serving, yet lack the Spirit of serving. If you serve without the Spirit it is easy to say you are tired and you become like those who work in the world. The difference between you and them is the environment. If the Spirit is in you, you uphold the image. We are ambassadors and where we go we represent Christ. If you don’t have the Spirit, it becomes easy to use the gift anywhere because you do not care about the image you are carrying.
It should not be the love of the gift that compels you to serve, otherwise, you end up becoming concerned about the gift. When you behold His image, you can never complain — You become conscious of it. You are conscious of your environment.
We have some preachers who do not have the Spirit of serving thus when they teach it is like motivation because they love to speak(gift). With the Spirit of serving you are mindful and careful that you do not become the same as the one in the world. Your serving must bring glory.
It is not about knowing everything about serving, but if it does not bring glory then it is in vain. You are doing it in the flesh.
When churches were shut it showed that many were in church because of the love of serving. That is why they died spiritually because they were no longer doing what they loved. You are not defined by your situation neither should your serving be controlled by your circumstances. We serve ceaselessly.
[Mark 11: 12-14]
If you serve because of seasons, it is easy to measure the benefits you receive from the world and church. Since at church you are not compensated for your service, you think it [gift] will work for you in the world. Jesus expected fruits from the fig tree. Even when the circumstances do not favour you, God requires faithfulness in serving. He expects fruits and it might seem unfair. We are bearing fruits in and out of season. We do not bear one type of fruit. Whether the conditions change we still bear fruits.
There are fruits we expect as per their season of production. Some trees cannot survive in floods, others in drought. God requires productivity. When we serve we are being productive. There are times where God can call you to serve and it is what you do not love. With Moses, he was chosen yet he still said he cannot speak. It is not about choice hence we bear fruits in and out of season.
Not all are called to become prodigal sons. There are those who think they will do like the prodigal son. Many go back to the world and come back again over and over again. They become prodigal sons who still go back and come asking for forgiveness. Not all will get the opportunity to come back. With the Spirit of serving you need to be careful. The prodigal son did not know when his inheritance would run out. You know the truth.
Be careful, you might not even have that grace to come back. God knows our hearts, you cannot repeat it again. There is a time where He (God) can reject your apology. Do not place yourself in the position of a prodigal son. You cannot choose, the Spirit has been given. When the father (Abraham Unknown) instructs you to do something, do it without complaining because the Spirit of serving is in you.
Some go out to the world and serve. When you come back it is as though you are toiling. You are like those whom Jesus rebuked when they were selling in the temple — you took that spirit to the house of God. You are defiling the temple.
You are entrusted as a faithful servant of God just like Job when he was tested. Do not come with excuses. Even though you might have gained in the world, do not come with reasons of why you cannot produce. God expects fruits even though you are in season.
The Spirit needs to be there even when you have plenty.
Some people, God knows that they are more faithful in lack. Now that they are blessed with certain things they start to have excuses. Others have excuses because they lack. So whether we have or not, we still serve. Our father taught and said that what God gave Adam or what came first was serving and not marriage.
That is why the bible teaches us that when you are married, serve as though you are single. Some consult their spouses on when they should serve. You find that when one is weak they all become weak.
Now that you have a family and responsibilities you feel as though you cannot serve. Adam fell because of marriage. There are others who have shifted because they are promised marriage. It is God first. You can never take the time you use to serve in the things of the world. If they are out of glory, it is useless. Those blessings must not remove you.
The prodigal son saw wealth. Some see that they are more blessed in the world. If you did not have excuses in lack, do not start having them in plenty. Many serve according to the conditions they find themselves in. Let us continue serving. If your gift is what kept you, now let it be the love of God that keeps you.
