“DENYING YOURSELF SAVES YOU FROM REBELLION”-Part 2
March 2, 2021Some can misinterpret confidence as pride. Pride goes hand-in-hand with disobedience. Pride feeds on disobedience. Most men denied the Will of God concerning marriage because of pride. People have standards. Standards which can never be compromised or sacrificed are wrong. Pride is when you cannot let go. Pride is failure to be humble.
According to the world, humbleness is esteemed as foolishness. Pride makes it hard for you to let go even when things are not going well. Pride forces you to stay in a place or situation, and not let go. Admitting that you lost is not failure. We have to be bigger than the situation, and not allow the situation to control us. With pride, you still want to maintain a certain image.
It is possible to build something without pride, and have pride after you have built it. Pride varies depending on the situation.
God taught me that we ought to deny ourselves and not others. Deny who you are and what or how you were born. We can agree with those that say they were born as a woman trapped in a man’s body. Yet in all that, God says deny that person; the one who is trapped in that body.
Most of the things seem as though we cannot stand against because we associate denying ourselves with the external factor and not who we are internal. We easily deny what we were taught but not what we grew in. We can deny what we saw or adapted from people, but not what we were born into.
There are characters that we are born with, that we need to deny. God says that we must deny ourselves and not our neighbours or what we were taught. Deny what you were born into and what you have inherited from your parents.
[John 1:10- 13]
You have to deny the one who is born of flesh and blood, so you can be born of a divine nature. God can never require you to deny yourself and not give you another life. Here, they were given the right; that is, to no longer be of the flesh and blood, but of the divine nature (Spirit).
When you fail to deny yourself (old person), it means you are rejecting the new person. As long as the battle is external, then we do not acknowledge it as salvation, because salvation is personal.
Fellowship might be of a community or gathering either physical or spiritual, yet salvation is a personal thing.
Denying who you are is important because what defeats many Christians, is who they are and not who the next person is. When you fall into the sin of drinking alcohol, it is because you desired to drink and not because you were influenced. You cannot say you were influenced by peer pressure. The truth of the matter is, peer pressure revealed who you are.
For instance, a person can be raped, but there is no way that person can say they delighted in being raped and want to experience that again. They were forced, hence we do not say they were pressurized by peers. Many people say they were pressurized by their peers to drink as if they were forced, and as if they did not delight in it.
It can be peer pressure, but once you go back to it, you are now delighting in it; it is no longer a force. When it comes to the characters or the desires we have, God is expecting us to deny ourselves.
In some instances, we were not forced to do certain things, yet we continuously exercised and practiced them. God teaches us that we should deny ourselves and not exclude ourselves from our mistakes by saying that we were forced. The fact of the matter is that the old person delights in sin. Jesus says that we should deny ourselves.
Those who failed to deny themselves failed to pick up the cross. Jesus did not specify the period you will pick up the cross. As long as you follow Christ you are to carry His cross. We rest in the new person. Many rest in the old and say they made it in salvation.
The old person will always be in strife and be denied what he wants. You are victorious in denying the old person.
The promise is not that the desire will go away, but you can be assured that the Word will give you power and strength to say no. Christianity is founded or based on the cross. It can never be Christianity when there is no cross.
You have pride and you have adapted to it, God says you must deny yourself. You cannot begin denying people in your environment whilst you have not yet denied yourself. Denying yourself leads you to denying bad company and those who corrupt you. We need to admit something. You will still fight things. Every day we are going to deny ourselves.
God is saying you have no right to flesh and blood but to the Sprit-man. Those who receive Him, have a new birth and it is not linked to your physical parents. Ensure that you continuously deny who you are and deem that person dead. Whenever our old self speaks we need to consider it as dead. Do not bring an excuse thinking God will understand. Who you are is what you have to deny.
